The native tongue, or native language, also known as the mother tongue, is the language to which an individual has been exposed since birth or during a particular period. Most of us take pride in speaking in a foreign tongue which is gaining more prominence in the fast-paced world, yet the love for our very own language is something exceptional. Since it’s the language through which a newborn perceives a sense of the world, the mother tongue or native tongue is the bottle that shapes cognitively. Keralites are proud to see the incredible exquisiteness attached to the mother tongue Malayalam, a Dravidian language spoken by 2.88% of Indians and has a rich literature and the right mixture of vocabulary & the grammatical influence of India’s two old classical languages. It eases a grasp of the immediate surrounding, learning of thoughts and concepts, and attainment of various skills. We acquire innately, we live, think and dream in Malayalam. Being the first language, it is an integral part of our human consciousness.
